it is not such a good place, because it is too difficult to read in the forums and threads.
It would be better to place those boxes on the top of the forum

I don't have to scroll any more and can see a full screen BUT the welcome box is taking up about 1/3 of my screen, the column with usernames/avatars/etc is about 1/4 and the actual section where messages are posted uses the rest.
