because he is in rehab official statement www.facebook.com/BonJoviIn response to questions about Richie Sambora & Bon Jovi's upcoming performance schedule, the band released this statement: "Our support for Richie is absolute. He is, and will remain, a member of Bon Jovi. Although he will be absent from upcoming shows for the time being, we very much look forward to his healthy return. In the meantime, we will keep our commitment to our fans and continue our tour."

Lots of love and prayers for our beloved lead guitarist. May our faith in him help him through this tough time and come out the other side healthier than before. We'll be there for you, Richie. Don't ever doubt it.

I wish Richie the best, but to say i'm happy about this, well, I'd be lying. Since my surgery is the 19th, I have looking forward to the May 10 concert in Columbus. Now, i'm not. If Richie isn't there, i don't want to go. i really wish they'd just postpone the shows, so Richie's fans won't miss out on seeing him. I have loved this band for 25 years, but I'm first a foremost a Richie fan. it is HIM I go to see and no offence to anyone, but I don't go to see Jon shake his rear end. I'm am so disappointed and probably won't ever get to see Richie live again. Get well soon Richie. I love you and want you well.

And also IMHO, IF the band wants to REALLY support a recovering alcoholic, the tour should be dry for EVERYONE, not just Richie.
Plus the places they play should also NOT sale alcohol.
THAT would really show their support.

THAT would really show their support. Seconded. That would be really, really great. I think post-poning the shows would be good for everyone. The boys could get some time off to recover from the tour, ticket sales would stay high (instead of having all the Richie fans going "Well... not much point now, is there?") and Richie gets the time he needs to come back stronger than ever. Fair enough, the band can carry on without him, but what is Bon Jovi without Richie? I'm speaking as a Jon girl and even I can appreciate the dynamic between him and Jon onstage. It's why I'm praying to every deity I can think of that he makes the Dublin shows. I'd hate to fly half-way around the world to miss out on those sexy hands! But either way, I'm sure whatever they do will be what's right for both Richie and the band.
