yes it's creeping closer and closer. My mom and I used to try new dishes and dessarts about this time of the year. Did you know it's really easy to make french toast during Thanksgiving and Christmas? Easy Holiday French Toast take Eggnog and put it in a shallow dish and wisk in one egg. Dip bread in the mixture and cook in a hot frying pan sprayed with either pam or butter and dust with powder sugar. Or need a quick dessart for a dinner and don't have much time to bake a cake. Chocolate Cream Pie 1 Large hershey bar or 1- 6 pack of Hershey bars. 1 large container of Coolwhip 1 pre made graham cracker pie crust. Melt hershey bar(s) in a double boiler and then fold into cookwhip and spread into pie shell and refregerate. just a few ideas. I love Simi Homemade on the Foodnetwork. Alice Faye

Here is one of my faves Butterscotch Cream Pie
Butterscotch pie recipe is topped with whipped cream. Ingredients:
1/2 cup sugar 1/3 cup hot water 2 cups milk 1/4 cup butter 6 tablespoons all-purpose flour 3/4 cup dark brown sugar, firmly packed 1/2 teaspoon salt 2 eggs 1 baked pastry pie shell, 9-inch 1 cup heavy cream, whipped and sweetened with about 1 tablespoon sugar Preparation:
Place granulated sugar in a heavy skillet. Cook over low heat without stirring until sugar melts and becomes golden brown. Remove from heat. Slowly add the 1/3 cup hot water. Cook without stirring until sugar is dissolved. Add milk; heat to the boiling point, but do not boil. In the top of a double boiler over boiling water, melt 1/4 cup butter; remove from heat. Add the flour, brown sugar, and salt. Beat in eggs and the milk mixture. Return to heat and continue cooking over boiling water, stirring constantly, until thickened. Cover and cook for an additional 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. Cool to room temperature; pour into baked pastry. Top with sweetened whipped cream.

Well, these cookies got rave reviews from my family, and aside from the break-and-bake cookies they're the easiest cookies I've ever made. Red Velvet White Chocolate/Chocolate Chip Cookies: 1 box of red velvet cake mix 1/3 cup of vegetable oil (I substituted Canola oil because its what we had on hand after I discovered we didn't have veg. oil like I'd thought) 3/4 cup white chocolate or chocolate chip (or any variation of a choc. chip) Mix all the ingredients together, then roll into individual balls, place 1-2 inches apart on a parchment lined baking sheet, and bake at 350 for 6-8 minutes. The result is a cookie that is firm on the outside but soft on the inside. I made what was intended to be a double batch the other day, but pleasantly resulted in way more cookies than I expected. They're disappearing fast though! Side note: I'd also recommend the Peanut Butter Blondies w/Chocolate Frosting and Chocolate-Walnut-Raisin Cookies from this website: www.joythebaker.com/In my opinion most of her recipes look fantastic, but those are the only ones I've tried so far.

okay we have a lot of sweets here is a savory and easy to make in a hurry. 1 bag oyster crackers 1 package of hidden valley ranch Dressing (Dry not wet) 2 tablespoon butter or margarine
melt butter and add dressing. Put crackers in an big zip lock bag and pour in melter butter and dressing mix and toss. Pour out on wax paper and let dry and eat.
Spiced nuts
Can of mixed nuts or peanuts not dry roasted. 2 tablespoons of Margarine or butter 1 teaspoon seasoning you can used Cayenne pepper or bar b que seasoning or even Chinese five spice depending on if you want them HOT or not.
Pour nuts in baggy and melt butter and put in seasoning to taste. I do not like strong spices so I add a little and taste to see how hot. if you want them sweet add Cinnamon sugar or pumpkin or apple pie spices and pour over nuts and shake as above crackers and pour out on wax paper to dry.
Reindeer crunch:
1 bag microwave popcorn popped 1 can peanuts 1 bag M & M's either dark, peanut butter or almond. haven't tried the mint ones all a matter of taste 1 box raisins you can use cranraisins or golden raisins instead of dark raisins it is to your taste 1 bag mini pretzels
Mix in a bowl and put in Christmas baggies great for little gifts to teachers or for you kids to give to their friends. But be carefull of any allergies to nuts. Check with parents before giving gift bag.
If you want to make any of these and you want to make it a gift I suggest getting those new lock and seal containers. You can get them cheap at Ross's. makes the gift a little more special when it is two gifts in one.
