well once again it proves what I have been saying all along the Charlotte Observer will never post a concert review of Bon Jovi in the paper but will post pictures on the web site.
So here is my review from my seat up in the rafters.
I hadn't been excited about the show for two reasons 1 I wasn't in my normal seat for Bon Jovi which was somewhere in the second row. And number 2 see the first reason and amplifie it 100%
I met up with Gina at her hotel at the Doubletree which is further from the arena than i thought....like 10 blocks! Waiting on Maria and Judith to get there we were testing out her camera and just chatting. I was going to meet up with some friends out front but well....I was late getting to the arena. We took the free transportation called the Gold Rush with is a sort of trolley which stopped running after 6:30pm.
I went up and met with my seat partner, Dawn who bowls with me on Tuesday night. She hadn't see the boys in concert in over 20 years so this was a treat for her. We did run into Deb Owens...you all remember she is part of the Smirk Girls on Backstage and a fellow North Carolinian.
Once inside we separated and I hit the shirt stand. Back during the Crush tour there was a shirt that Jon wore out on stage Forgetabouit and I missed getting one...pissed me off now i hit the shirts first....well coming away 105.00 poorer I did get the JBJ soul shirt that the proceeds went to the foundation. So I guess that I only spent 65.00 seeing as how 40 of it was a donation.
Dawn and I hit the snack bar and split a pizza and had a soda which was cheaper than I thought The drink and pizza cost me 9.00 and she gave me half of the money for the pizza. I handed the girl a ten and then let her keep the change and you would have thought I was queen of the world they yelled and whistled when they get a tip. Remember when you go to the concession stands most of them are run by youth organizations and they keep a percentage of the take for their charity and all tips.
Dashboard Confessionals was okay...not my cup of tea. they played one song and right now can't even remember the title that i knew and could sing along too.
Once they were off the stage I was telling Dawn to listen to the pa songs and when This is Our House comes on the concert will start at the end. These two girls beside me asked me how i knew and i was like ...
"Well it's all that has been said on twitter."
This sweet young girls goes your on twitter. Okay I know I am old but jeeze you don't have to rub it in.
I told her yes and she asked my name and I told her and she gets all excited and goes I follow you! Now Dawn is laughing so hard and whispers you have a following!
Then over the PA we hear This is our house and you could see the people rushing to their seats. Then it starts the screen lowers with the words going across it and okay here is the bummer of sitting up in the rafters the illusion of them walking out is ruined because from my seat I could see Dave at his section and Bobby stepping up to his place and Tico on the drums.
Jon was on fire ... normally when they come to Charlotte he has seemed pissed off and not in a good mood. But Thursday night he was bouncing all over the stage. From where I was sitting it looked like he had on a charcoal gray shirt unbuttoned some and black pants which I heard later was a purple shirt. Richie had on his moose guard maroon pants and a dark jacket i think. David had on a white tee shirt style shirt and Tico was in all black as usual.
You already know the set list. My friend and a lady behind me thought i was missing too much of the concert by texting but when I told her I was doing the Play by Play for twitter Jovination she was like Oh okay.
Highlights...Diamond Ring and of course my song! I had been told by my friend Gloria who has already been to like 5 shows that if you get Make a Memory you won't get Hallelujah. So after hearing it I was like...it's okay AF you got to hear it in Greensboro and you have it on CD and your iPod...so I was just a little down that I got Make a Memory until the encore... David comes out and sits at the piano and I hear the opening bars...I was like going OH my God oh My God...OH MY GOD. I had tears in my eyes when I texted to Tre ...I texted her OH MY GOD HALLELUJAH!!! My night was made perfect!
When it was over the only thing I could think about was going to the bathroom. Of course it was like crossing a stream of spawning Salmon but after telling the people to let me through woman got to pee...yes i have no shame I had to go pee! I got across and saw a line of about 60 people...I gave up and went out to meet up with Gina, Maria and Judith...who for some reason didn't leave like I did. Said goodbye to Dawn who was going home to pack for Vegas...lucky stiff... I waited until they finally came out. We headed back to the hotel I told them I was going to stop at the hotel on the other side of the Train tracks which just happened to be the Ritz Carlton.
Going into the swank hotel in my Bon Jovi Forever scull shirt I found the ladies room. After finishing and going to wash my hands this lady goes...
"you just left the Bon Jovi concert? You know they are staying at the hotel and in the bar?"
Okay I'm cool I walk out to where i left the three and go..
"You know my brother came to town and didn't tell me he and his friends are at the bar."
Now Gina knows I don't have a brother but there were still fans hanging around...so I was trying to be really casual coded message.
"Yeah my Brother Jon and his buddy Richie are at the bar in there."
I waited on the three of them to rush past me...but they didn't. So on we walked to the hotel.
Personally I wouldn't have gone into the bar because of what I had on. Now if I had on just a plain shirt and jeans I would have...but I wouldn't have gotten 2 feet from them in a Bon Jovi shirt that screamed FAN. That is a no no. You don't want security to know your a fan or you won't get two feet into the bar before you were asked to leave. Been there so I know. The time I met Richie, Hugh and David I had on a polo shirt and jeans and no one knew I was a fan but the two other girls I was with.
So that is my night with Gina, Maria, Judith and Dawn at the Charlotte NC stop on the Circle Tour.
